Hungry Farmer: Savor Authentic Comfort Food in San Antonio

I've been on the Hungry Farmer side and there is a lot of room for improvement there. However, Uncle Barney's is where it's at. I think the burger tastes just as good as Burger Boy, but this one has a huge juice patty. One of the best I've had in San Antonio. I'd come back.

Very fun eclectic decor, you can really find some old signs on the walls that are pretty funny. I really liked the salad dressing choices and how they give you salad right away. I went with the garlic one because it was a weird color green. The hamburger steak was unique because they shaped it like Texas! The fish was not the best...But understandably since this place is mostly about meat.

Great food! Fast service! They had salads on the table right as we sat down to eat. I enjoyed dining there and liked the Texas shaped steak with onions. The baked potato was cooked perfectly.

Went today for the first time. I was immediately seated and greeted by the staff which is not something you see very often anymore. Within a minute a salad was already delivered. After a few suggestions from the waiter, they let me order off menu. I got a Chicken Fried Chicken with fried okra. This did not dissapoint at all. It was cooked to a golden brown perfection. The breading was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was juicy. I'll be returning to this hidden Texas gem.

Big portions of great food. I loved the decor inside. Definitely a hidden gem--although it is a neighborhood staple. Glad they have gish, shrimp, chicken fried steak and hamburger steak. Sides we tried were fried okra, fries, loaded potato and potato soup.

A steakhouse that takes you back to the times when you'd eat with the whole family. The garlic dressing is still as delicious as I remember. I wish I could take it home! We had the chicken fried steak and sausage lunch specials and they are very filling and yummy!

Not in this part of town often but gotta enjoy some good eats when we are. Ordered the big sirloin and veggies. Almost couldn’t finish … almost. Lol nice place and family friendly.

We love the burgers at Uncle Barney's, so today we decided to try out the Steakhouse side. The menu and atmosphere was comforting, like a Cracker Barrel that hasn't had an identity crisis. We enjoyed just about everything we tried, and truly loved most of it. (I didn't care for the potato soup which was thinner than I prefer.) Overall, this place is a little more like the kind of restaurant and service that I would expect in a small, country town than in a city like San Antonio, but the only disappointment was the price (which was already a bit steep, but surprised me more by the lack of a military discount). The hostess and servers were welcoming, friendly, and responsive. The food was piping hot and prepared exactly as we hoped! We will definitely come back.
